Advantages and disadvantages in using Sony Vegas

In this blog post I will be discussing and highlighting the advantages and disadvantages in the editing software (Sony Vegas) that we have been using for editing and producing our music video.

Advantages:

  • VEGAS Pro has all the features professional editors need to create their video projects. Tools like chroma key, white balance, image stabilization, stereoscopic 3D editing, multicam editing and masking.
  • Vegas has built-in interactive tutorials that show you how many of the tools work which will aid new editors and creators.
  • A unique tool in this software is the VEGAS Pro Connect iPad app. The purpose of this app allows you to perform basic desktop functions on your tablet. You can control playback, drop markers and collaborate with other editors who also have the app.
  • Finally the professional video editor also features such as intelligent upscaling; which means that you can take your regular HD footage and upscale it to 4K resolution (which is a much higher resolution). This is great because it allows you to work with footage that may be older with clips filmed with the newest ultra-high-resolution cameras.

Disadvantages:
  • If you’re a new editor, it may take you a while to get the hang of all the tools VEGAS Pro has to offer.
  • One of the major downfalls for this program is that it is only compatible with Windows, this is bad news for the large population who use Mac computers and Linux.
  • Requires a massive storage space which is, 5 GB.
  • Much more Expensive than the others

However as our school is supplied with Sony Vegas already built-in the computers I do not need to worry or think about the expenses but also I can access this program easily in school and on my free lessons and confidently follow tutorials on the software and YouTube.
