Analysis of Ancillary Music Video
To edit and produce my music video I used the software program Sony Vegas Pro as the program is very easy to use and follow; but also the program was free on my school's Mac computers therefore I stayed behind after school to further edit my music video. I intended and wanted to create a thrilling/ vintage looking music video with a SLR overlay to convey to the viewer a dramatic change in recording styles and to show that I have gone against the stereotypical HD 1080p video style.
A good point about creating a vintage looking music video is that it stands out from the regular looking music videos now-a-days. In addition to my music video the use of a vintage overlay/ video FX helps create an artistic atmosphere and to make the video seem more interesting than just a plain no edited video.
Sony Vegas is an amazing program that any person who has no previous skill with editing software can easily watch videos and understand the in's and out's of the program; the easy to follow structure can make any standard music video look very professional. As a result of this I watched many tutorial videos on YouTube that help guide me on how to use the program correctly and strategically.
Many music videos that I researched into such as The Weekend 'I feel it coming' and 'Lust for life' by Lana Del Rey, both of these music videos incorporated the vintage looking overlay on their music videos; these music videos gave me inspiration to not follow the codes and conventions of a stereotypical video.
In my music video I had an objective to incorporate various lip sync scenes into my music video, for this I directed the cameraman (Reece Robinson) to manipulate many media studies camera techniques and further used an extreme close up shot and a medium shot. The lip sync aspect of my music video was very successful as I mouthed the song in sync with my phone as I played the song in the background but later on when editing in Sony Vegas I overlay-ed my chosen song as an MP3; the use of this strategy easily gives me the exact timing of when to sing with the music. However trial and error was vital in this process as I had to find the specific timing for the audio to link in with the music video.
The location of my music video was easily accessible as I carried my camera equipment in a bag and had to climb a wall that leads me straight into the abandoned building entrance. Furthermore the terrain is very dirty and contaminated with rubbish this helps create an interesting atmosphere and landscape for the production of my music video. On the other hand health and safety was at risk as to gain access into the building I had to maneuver through a gap of a broken window.
I thrive for the artistic flow and atmosphere that popular artists are creating in their music videos; they give me a variety of art and culture from observing their intentions and overall goal for the creation of their music video. My main inspiration for the creation and production of my music video was 'The Weeknd' as he easily constructs a dark, tense and thrilling story-line effortlessly in his final product of the music video 'Tell Your Friends' as he includes subtle detail that adds towards the storytelling he creates throughout all of his music videos, and makes the audience question and try to understand why and what his stories are about.
